Review: Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Go

A budget Chromebook from Samsung with plenty of enticing convenience features.

Good points?

Weighing just under 1.5kg (3.3lbs), the device is portable without feeling too flimsy, so packing it into a backpack that gets rough treatment shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

Portability is also aided by Samsung’s inclusion of a SIM card slot that allows you to continue working without a WiFi connection. This is ideal for those who move from site to site not knowing what connectivity options are available at your next location.

Being a Chrome-based computer means that all aspects of Google’s ecosystem are integrated, such as Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Drive storage.

It also provides greater data security with two-factor authentication that requires the user to know not only the account password, but also potentially access to the account’s registered smartphone.

Battery life is impressive with a single two-hour charge lasting 12 hours with near-continuous use watching videos, browsing the web, and writing documents.

The keyboard and trackpad offer a premium feel with the keys providing perfect travel and resistance to be comfortable knowing explicitly that your command has been received.

Bad points?

Although the importance of remote meetings has increased in recent years, the quality of the device’s webcam is poor and indicative of budget products of this type.
