Acer Chromebook Spin 513 powered by MediaTek Kompanio 1380 to be launched soon, Telecom News, ET Telecom

NEW DELHI: Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek on Thursday launched the new 6nm-based MediaTek Kompanio 1380 chipset for Chromebooks with artificial intelligence (AI) features and cloud gaming capabilities.

MediaTek said the Acer Chromebook Spin 513 will be the first Chromebook device to launch with the Kompanio 1380 chip.

The Kompanio 1380 comes with an octa-core processor with four high-performance Arm Cortex-A78 cores with speeds of up to 3 GHz paired with a five-core Arm Mali-G57 GPU. It supports up to four-channel LPDDR4X 2133 MHz RAM. Along with that, it comes with MediaTek APU 3.0 AI processor.

The latest Kompanio chip supports up to two 4K 60Hz displays, or one 4K 60Hz display plus two 4K 30Hz displays.

It incorporates AV1 hardware decoding to enable streaming of 4K visual content.

The Wi-Fi 7 standard is an upgrade over Wi-Fi 6 and offers a speed increase of around 2.4x.

Regarding connectivity, the Kompanio 1380 chip would support Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth 5.

“This chip stands out for its exceptional processing performance, top-notch multimedia and AI features, and smooth cloud gaming capabilities, all packed into an ultra-efficient 6nm chip,” said PC Tseng, General Manager of the Intelligent Multimedia business unit at MediaTek.

“The Kompanio 1380 is integral to providing a great user experience, whether they’re working from home, enjoying media on the go, or anything in between. We’re thrilled to see its versatility come to life on the Acer Chromebook Spin 513, the first product launched with this chip,” said John Solomon, vice president of Chrome OS at Google.
